2011 - 2014 (Junior Scientist)- AICRP on IFS

. Developed Nutrient Management practices for Rice –Toria cropping system.

• Developed Integrated Farming System module for small and marginal farmers. Also developed nutrient management practices for crops, worked out nutrient budgeting, recycling of farm waste through vermicomposting.

• Evaluated profitable diversified cropping sequence (Crop diversification) for irrigated medium land situation. Worked out nutrient use efficiency and soil nutrient status.

• Developed technology for efficient bioconversion of weed biomass and rice straw utilizing native cellulose decomposing microorganisms and earthworms.

• Developed technology for microbial enrichment of vermicompost for quality improvement
2014 - 2018 (Junior Scientist)- AICRP on Weed Management

• Developed sustainable integrated weed management and soil health improvement practices for rice- rice cropping system. Detail study in relation to the possible effects of herbicides on soil micro-biota showed no deleterious effect on microbial community and enzyme activities such as dehydrogenase, phosphomonoesterase (PMEase), urease at recommended dose of herbicides.

• Sustaining and improving soil quality particularly under intensive cropping is important for realizing higher crop productivity. Developed technology on weed management and soil health improvement for rice-wheat cropping system. Application of pretilachlor 0.75 kg/ha to rice and isoproturon 0.75 kg/ha with surfactant and balanced application of fertilizer is essential for productivity enhancement and soil health improvement in rice-wheat system.

• High efficacy, low dose herbicides are important for environment friendly and cost effective weed management programme. However, their possible impact on residue build up in crops is important before recommending their large scale use. As such, developed technology for enhance degradation of Metribuzin, a low dose high efficacy, wide spectrum new herbicide in chilli through organic amendments. Results revealed that the metribuzin residue at recommended dose was observed at below detection limit (BDL) from 45th day of application of metribuzin in chilli and half-life recorded with single and double the recommended doses as 3 and 4 days respectively following application of vermicompost 2t/ha.

• Weed Biomass is a valuable source of organic carbon and plant nutrients if properly utilized. Such biomass is abundantly available in and around farm land. Therefore, technology for its efficient conversion utilizing earthworms was standardized for production of quality vermicompost. The study revealed that biomass of weed species could be efficiently converted into quality organic manure within 2-3 months utilizing earthworms and cellulose decomposing microorganisms.

• Developed weed management technology in Potato. Application of Metribuzin 0.75 kg/ha as early post-emergence is suitable for efficient and economic control of weeds and higher potato productivity.

• Involved in various company trials related to bioefficacy and phytotoxicity study of new molecules of herbicides.
2018 – till date (Asst. Professor)

• Conservation Agriculture is becoming increasingly popular in different countries of the world in view of fast degradation of natural resources and emerging problem of climate change. Developed Integrated Weed Management in Rice-Mustard-Green manure cropping system under conservation agriculture and studied the effect of herbicides on soil enzyme activities. Application of herbicide resulted in inhibition of enzyme activities and highest inhibition was recorded at 15 day after application of the herbicide after which there was an increasing trend and declined at the harvest time. Significantly higher enzyme activity was resulted from minimum tillage and direct seeding rice over the conventional tillage and transplanted rice. Results also revealed that the surface soil had higher organic carbon content (0.74 %) compared to sub-surface soil and had lower bulk density (1.34 g/cc) indicating improvement in aeration and water holding capacity. The carbon stock at the surface (0-15 cm) soil (14.9 Mg/ha) was higher followed by the soil depth (15 – 30 cm) (13.7Mg/ha) and 30 – 45 cm (12.4Mg/ha).Study in regards to herbicide residues under conservation agriculture revealed lowest residue of pretilachlor and pendimethalin with combination of minimum tillage with direct seeding rice over the conventional tillage with transplanted rice. No pretilachlor and pendimethalin residue was detected in soil and plant sample at harvest.

• Developed dissipation pattern of herbicides in soil and plant under conservation agriculture system in Assam

• Mitigating persistence of herbicides is important to avoid soil contamination. Bioremediation is one of the important methods of mitigating persistence of herbicide in soil. As such, bioremediation of quizalfop-ethyl, a new post emergence herbicide for grassy weed control was undertaken with five (5) bacterial consortia isolated from different polluted locations viz.oil fields, coal fields, brick fields, paper industry, cement industry of Assam along with vermicompost. Results revealed that vermicompost degrades the herbicide molecules within a shorter time period. Similarly, some bacterial isolates and their consortia were effective in degrading herbicide residues with shorter half lives.

• Actively involved in transfer of technology in the field of vermicomposting, weed management in crops and cropping systems, management of Alien Invasive Weeds, Soil health management etc. to the farming community throughas well as other stakeholders through training, demonstration, lecture as well as print and electronic media.
