MBA (Agri Business)
In the face of a rapidly transforming agricultural landscape, new economic opportunities are emerging through diversification, commercialization, and value-addition in agriculture. These changes have significantly enhanced the prospects of increasing farm incomes. However, realization of this potential calls for a shift in how we manage agriculture and its allied sectors. From crop production to livestock, horticulture, sericulture, forestry, and fisheries, every subsystem of agriculture must be managed efficiently and innovatively to harness the benefits of these evolving opportunities.
Despite growing market orientation and commercialization of agriculture, many of these benefits have not yet reached the farming community. This gap is largely due to the lack of agribusiness skills, limited entrepreneurial capacity among rural youth, and the continued dominance of intermediaries in the agri-value chains. What agriculture needs today is not just better technologies, but visionary leadership and sound business acumen. This is where the MBA in Agri-Business Management plays a transformative role.
Housed within the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, the MBA (Agri-Business) programme is designed to empower young minds with the knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurial spirit required to manage agriculture as a profitable and sustainable business. The programme blends the fundamentals of business administration with sector-specific insights in agriculture, agribusiness, rural marketing, agro-processing, supply chain management, and natural resource-based enterprise development.
The MBA (Agri-Business) programme at our University began its journey in the academic year 2002-03 under the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management. Since its inception, the programme has remained steadfast in its mission to develop skilled professionals in the field of agribusiness management. Over the past 22 years, the programme has proudly produced more than 150 graduates, many of whom have gone on to build successful careers in central and state government jobs, bank and financial organizations, leading business organizations or have become self-reliant entrepreneurs through their own agri-based ventures.
In its early years, the programme operated with modest resources, admitting just four students annually. Despite these limitations, it consistently delivered high-quality education and maintained a strong reputation. Recognizing the growing demand and increasing popularity of the course, the student intake was subsequently increased to ten per batch. This enhancement marked a significant step forward, reflecting the programme’s commitment to serve the educational and professional aspirations of the students.
