Formation of common interest group of rural women:Baseline data was collected by conducting structured PRA at the cluster level as well as 2011 census data. Based on the information collected, the farmers were selected as per the suitability of the project’s objectives. All the selected 100 farmers are traditional farmers. After repeated focused group discussions and personal interviews, 4 Common Interest Groups (25 each) of the rural women were formed in the area of improved Backyard poultry (Kamrupa), Integrated poultry cum fish farming, Vermicomposting and Beekeeping
To provide training and demonstration on scientific management of improved backyard poultry (Kamrupa), integrated poultry cum fish farming, vermicomposting and Bee keeping for income generation and self-employment of the rural women: Skill gap analysis of the selected farmers was done and depending upon their performance separate training module was prepared for improved backyard poultry (Kamrupa), integrated poultry cum fish farming, vermicomposting and Beekeeping. The training module is consisting of all aspects of scientific farming starts from production, processing to marketing. Hands on training of 4 days duration covering all aspects of scientific farming was provided in different farm premises of Assam Agricultural University as well as in the farmer’s field.
1. Academic achievements:-
A total of 15 students have cleared ICAR NET, 5 students have cleared UGC NET and 2 students have been awarded JRF by UGC
One student cleared ARS conducted by ASRB.
A total of 66 students have completed MVSc Degree programme and 12 students have been awarded Ph.D degree by the Department.
Almost 90% of the passouts from the Department have managed to gain employment in different public and private agencies/organisations like Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), State Agricultural Universities ( SAUs), Central Agricultural Acticvities (CAUs), State Veterinary Departments etc
2. Events organised:
Ø The Department has organised a National Seminar in Extension Approaches for Inclusive Agricultural Development in Hilly, Tribal and Backward Areas from 20- 22nd August, 2013 in collaboration with Indian Veterinary Extension Forum.
Ø The Department organised a GOI sponsored Model Training course on “Capacity Building on Livestock Entrepreneureship Development for Field Functionaries of NE Region: from 23rd to 30th September, 2016.
Ø The Department conducted many training programmes in adopted cluster of villages in Boko Development Block in collaboration with Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Lalmati, Guwahati in the year 2017
Ø The Department has organised an International Webinar on “Entrepreneurship and Enterprising in Livestock Sector” on 24th September, 2020.
Ø The Department has organised a day long Covid Protection Awareness and Hand Sanitizer Distribution Programme at Khanapara, 24th December, 2020.
3. Project :-
Ø Running Project:
The Department is running a DBT sponsored Project on “Empowerment of Rural Women through Capacity Building in Improved Biotechnological Innovation and Application” since 2018.
Completed Project:
Two projects funded by Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, ICAR, Bhimtal and another project in Collaboration with Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Lalmati.
