B.Sc.(Agri) degree programme

Duration: 8 semesters [(Minimum 4 years including 1 semester Experiential Learning (ELP) and 1 semester Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme (RAWEP)/Tea Industrial Work Experience Programme (TIWEP)]
Eligibility: PCB/PCAg* With 50% marks in aggregate for Gen/OBC/UPS category & 40% marks in aggregate for SC/ST/DAC category in 10+2/Higher Secondary/Intermediate examination

B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree programme
Intake capacity: 130
Duration: 10 semesters (Minimum 5 years including 6 months internship)
Eligibility: BCPE* with 50% marks in aggregate for Gen/OBC/UPS (40% for SC/ST/DAC in aggregate) in 10+2 examination/Higher Secondary/Intermediate examination

B.Sc. (H.Sc.) degree programme

B.Sc.(Hort) degree programme

B.Sc.(Seri) degree programme

Eligibility: : PCB/PCAg/PC Forestry/PCMB* with 50% marks for Gen/OBC/UPS category & 40% for SC/ST/DAC category in 10+2/Higher Secondary/Intermediate examination

**30seats are reserved for higher fee category (HFC) in B.Sc.(Agri) degree programme in the College of Agriculture, Jorhat. These seats are admissible to the Indian National from NE region strictly on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination without any reservation against payment of higher fee (Refer Clause no 29) with a rider that not more than 5 (five) seats shall be allotted to any particular state to encourage admittance from the all the N.E. states including Sikkim. Any additional vacancy that may arise in any programme, be filled up from this category at the discretion of the selection committee. Those students admitted under higher fee category shall not be eligible for any financial benefits including Scholarship, Stipend, Internship and any other grants from the University.

Eligibility for VLEW, VFA, F.D. & S.D.

In case of candidates working as VLEW/VFA/FD/SD in the State of Assam, the minimum qualification for admission shall be as under:

a) A candidate must have passed at least Higher Secondary/10+2 or equivalent examinations in science group with Physics, Chemistry & Biology (or Botany and Zoology in place of Biology), with 45% marks in aggregate and must have passed in all subjects in one sitting.
b) Maximum age should not exceed 35 years on 01-08-2016.
c) Should possess at least 3 years practical field experience.
d) Must be sponsored by the Director of Agriculture, Director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Director of Fisheries, Director of Sericulture, Govt. of Assam, respectively, for B.Sc. (Agri), B.V.Sc. & A.H., B.F.Sc., B.Sc.(Hort) and B.Sc (Seri) degree programmes.

Eligibility for Master's Degree Programmes

M.Sc. (Agri), M.V.Sc., M.Sc. (H.Sc.) & M.F.Sc. Degree Programme:

A candidate must have passed the B.Sc. (Agri)/B.Sc. (Hort.)/B.Sc (Agri. Biotech)/ B.Sc. (Hons)Agriculture/Horticulture/B.Sc.(H.Sc.)/B.Sc.(Hons) Home Science/B.F.Sc./B.Tech(Fishery Science) of 4 years duration /B.V.Sc & A.H. (as the case may be) degree examination of this University or any other University recognized by this University securing minimum CGPA of 2.60 / 4.00 scale or 3.25/5.00 scale or 6.60/10.00 scale for Gen/OBC/UPS category and 2.20/4.00 or 2.75/5.00 or 5.60/10.00 for SC/ST/DAC. This shall be relaxable for candidates having 5 years of service experience and deputed by the Govt. of Assam/AAU to a CGPA of 2.30 in 4.00 scale or 5.70 in 10.00 scale or 45% of marks in traditional system. One seat in each of the disciplines will be reserved for in-service candidate of AAU/Govt. of Assam.

In case where Grade points are not awarded only marks are awarded, the candidate must have secured at least 60% marks for General/OBC/UPS category and 50% marks for SC/ST/DAC category.

In addition to that B.Tech (Food Technology)/B.Sc Food Science & Technology/ Horticulture/Biochemistry of 4 year duration will also be eligible for M.Sc (H.Sc.) Food Science & Nutrition. Also the student with B.Sc.(Agri) will be eligible for M.Sc (H.Sc.) Extension and Communication Management.

M. Sc. (Food Technology) Degree Programme:

A candidate must have passed B.Sc., B.Sc. (Agri)/B.Sc. (Hort)/B.V.Sc. & A.H./B.Sc. (Home Science)/B.Sc. (Food Science)/B.E./B.Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture/Horticulture/Home Science/B.Fsc or other equivalent degree of this university or any other university recognized by the Assam Agricultural University securing a minimum CGPA 2.60/4.00 or 3.25/5.00 scale or 6.60/10.00 scale for Gen/OBC/UPS category and 5.60/10.00 or 2.75/5.00 or 2.20/4.00 for SC/ST/DAC Category. In case where Grade points are not awarded, only marks are awarded, the candidate must have secured at least 60% marks for GEN/OBC/UPS category and 50% marks for SC/ST/DAC category.

Selection of the candidates for admission into M.Sc. (Food Technology) is based on the entrance test to be conducted by the Department.

M. Sc. (Agri) in Sericulture Degree Programme:

A candidate must have passed B.Sc. with Zoology, Chemistry and Botany, preferably with honours in Zoology with at least 45% marks in aggregate and should have at least 3 years of service experience and must be sponsored by the Govt. of Assam or the Central Silk Board. Candidates with B.Sc. (Agri) with a CGPA of 2.60 in 4.00 scale or 6.60 in 10.00 scale are also eligible to apply.

In addition to that B.Sc(Seri)/B.Sc.(Hons) Sericulture candidate may also be considered for admission into M.Sc(Agri.) Sericulture, till PG programmes are started in the College of Sericulture, AAU.

MBA (Agri Business) Degree Programme:

A candidate must have passed the B.Sc. (Agri), B.V.Sc. & A.H., B.E. (Agril. Engineering), B.Sc. (Dairy Science), B.Sc. (Home Science) of 4 year duration, B.F.Sc. or B.Sc. (Forestry) (as the case may be), B.Sc.(Hons) Agri/Hort/H.Sc./Forestry/B.Tech (Ag. Engg.) degree examination of this University or any other University recognized by this University securing a minimum CGPA of 2.60 in 4.00 or 3.25/5.00 or 6.60/10.00 for Gen/OBC/UPS category and 2.20/4.00 or 2.75/5.00 or 5.60/10.00 for SC/ST/DAC category. This is relaxable to candidates having 5 years of service experience and deputed by Govt. of Assam to a CGPA 2.30 in 4.00 scale or 5.70 in 10.00 scale or 45.00% marks in traditional system.

In case where grade points are not awarded only marks are awarded, the candidate must have secured at least 60% marks for Gen/OBC/UPS category and 50% marks for SC/ST/DAC Category.

M. Sc. (Agri) degree programme in Bio-technology:

Eligible candidates shall have to appear in an entrance test. Selection of the candidates for admission to M.Sc.(Agri) degree programme in Biotechnology is based on academic records and performance in the entrance test. Fifty per cent (50%) weightage is given for the academic record and 50% on the entrance test. Entrance tests consist of two papers - Paper I - General aptitude (50 marks), Paper II - Subject matter (150 marks) and viva- voce examination - (50 marks). The candidate must secure 50% marks in the written test to be qualified for the viva-voce examination. Fifty per cent (50%) of the total intake will be considered for admission in this programme through combined Biotechnology Exntrance Test conducted by the Jawaharlal Nehru University with preference to basic degree in Agriculture. The candidates from general stream shall have to undergo a bridge course.

A maximum number of 10 (ten) students will be eligible to avail merit scholarship at the rate of ` 4,500/- per month based on merit and subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria as notified.

M.V.Sc. degree programme in Animal Bio-technology:

An entrance test is arranged for the eligible candidates. For admission to the M.V.Sc. degree programme in Animal Biotechnology, a candidate has to pass B.V.Sc & A.H. from a recognized university securing a minimum CGPA of 2.60 in 4.00 scale or 6.60 in 10.00 scale. In case where Grade points are not awarded only marks are awarded, the candidate must have secured at least 60% marks for Gen/OBC/UPS category and 50% marks for SC/ST/DAC category. Out of 10 seats available per year, 5 seats are open for candidates who qualify in the Combined Biotechnology Entrance Examination conducted by the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. For rest of the seats, a separate entrance examination shall be conducted by AAU as per the following marks distribution and pattern on a notified date in due course.

1. Animal genetics & breeding = 20 marks
2. Animal reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics = 15 marks
3. Veterinary bio-chemistry = 25 marks
4. Veterinary microbiology = 25 marks
5. Veterinary physiology = 15 marks

Types of questions: Objectives (Multiple choices)

Syllabus: UG syllabus of the concerned subjects as per recommendations of the Veterinary Council of India.

Eligibility for Ph.D. Degree Programme

Faculty of Agriculture, Home Science and Fisheries Science:

A candidate must have passed M.Sc. (Agri)/M.Sc. (H.Sc.)/M.F.Sc. (As the case may be) degree examinations in the concerned discipline of this University or any other University recognized by this University with basic degree in Agriculture/Home Science/Fisheries Science with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 in 4.00 scale or 7.00 in 10.00 scale or 58.00% of marks in the traditional system relaxable for deputed candidates having 5 years of service experience to a CGPA of 2.85 in 4.00 scale or 6.70 in 10.00 scale or 55.00% of marks in the traditional system. One seat in each of the disciplines shall remain reserved for in-service candidate of AAU and Govt. of Assam.

Notes: Considering the HR needs in the field of Biotechnology, 30% of the total intake of the Ph.D. programme in the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology under the Faculty of Agriculture shall be made open to the Non-Agri students completing 10+2+3 pattern majoring in Biochemistry /Bioinformatics /Biotechnology /Botany /Microbiology with 55% marks. Such students shall have to undergo a bridge course, either simultaneously or separately.

The candidates serving as JRFs/SRFs/RAs at AAU are eligible to apply for admission into the PG Programmes subject to fulfillment of other eligibility criteria.

Faculty of Veterinary Science:

A candidate must have passed M.V.Sc. examination in concerned discipline of this University or any other University recognized by this University with basic degree in Veterinary Science with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 in 4.00 scale or 7.00 in 10.00 scale or 58.00% of marks in traditional system.

The admission into Ph.D. programme in Animal Biotechnology shall be on the basis of the written test to be conducted by the College and the students completing M.V.Sc. in Animal Biotechnology /Veterinary Microbiology /Veterinary Biochemistry /Veterinary Physiology /Animal Genetics & Breeding/Animal Reproduction, Gynecology & Obstetrics /Animal Nutrition/ Veterinary Pathology/ Veterinary Parasitology with a minimum CGPA of 7.00 in 10.00 point scale will be eligible for the course.
