The department of Family Resource Management is one ofl the full fledged departments of Faculty of Home Science, offering both under graduate and post graduate programmes since 1973 and 1991, respectively. |

Teaching: |
|
The department is successfully imparting professional education since its inception with the following objectives:
The department is in a comfortable position with one professor, five associate professor, one research associate and three supporting staff. So far, majority of the post graduate students who have passed out from this departament are gainfully employed on different fields. |

Research: |
|
This department has undertaken various research projects under non-project faculty research and M.Sc. programme. The thrust areas of research are -
The horizon of research has widened with initiation of All India Co-ordinated Research Project funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research since 1996. The department staff has submitted several research projecats to different funding agencies. |

Extension: |
|
The department besides engaging in teaching and research has undertaken several training programmes for enhancing the quality of life. Further the department offers short course and certificate course on "Interior Decoration" and "Flower Arrangement" with a view to develop good taste for interior and exterior enrichment. As a part of celebration of 50th year of Indias Independence on women education, programme on renewable energy was undertaken in rural areas of Jorhat. Tuning with the natuonal policy, thedeparatment had organized training programme on improved chulah in the year 1998. The programme was organized in collaboration with Assam Science Technology & Environment Council and sponsored by Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Source, Govt. Of India. Further, consumer awareness camp and training on household crafts are organized with a view to imparat knowledge on consumer rights and responsibilities as well as to encourage the women folk to engage in income generating activities, respectively. In addition, the department prepared several bulletins in Assamese in order to disseminate the home science technology to rural areas. The department hd organized a National Seminar on "Families under stress: problems and coping strategies" in the year 1994 jointly with the deparatment of Child Development and Family Relations. |

Future programme: |
|
The department is planning to start Ph.D. degree programme from the next academic year. The department is going to establish an Energy Park with a view toraise awareness about renewable energy devices among the common people. |
