| This is a full-fledged Department having both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Post-graduate programmes was started in this Department in 1988. The Department deals with two broad aspects, viz., clothing and textiles. | |
| Teaching | |
| The broad objectives of the course curriculum of this Department are: | |

| Clothing deals with the major areas like importance of clothing, its socio-cultural significance, childrens' clothing, women's clothing, advanced clothing construction, commercial pattern making etc. | |
| Students acquire the knowledge about different textile fibres and their properties - both physical and chemical. The Department also imparts knowledge on different dyeing and printing methods suitable for different fibre fabrics. Principles of weaving are also taught through the course on weaving where students learn the different techniques of fabric construction. | |
| Research | |
| So far 37 postgraduate research works and one non-project faculty research work have been successfully completed. The major areas selected for research are standardization of body measurements, designing garments for children and adolescent girls, renovation of garments, designing hand embroidered floor coverings, use of handloom textiles in designing garments, textile testing, care of textiles, dyeing and printing, fibre processing, traditional textiles and consumers of different communities etc. |
