Our Achievements

            

             With the implementation of technology mission (Horticulture) demand for planting material has increased. But the number of nursery supplying planting materials is very limited in Karimganj district and the planting materials supplied by them were not upto the mark. Hence, the beneficiary under the technology mission had to procure the required planting materials from outside the districts. KVK, Karimganj explored the possibility of establishing horticultural nursery and arrange training on nursery management and propagation techniques of different horticultural crops. Quite a few nos. of trainee have been motivated through our training on propagation technique and Md. Habu Uddin Topodar of village Khola, P. O.: Marzatkandi, Karimganj being one of them started a nursery during 2007-08 for producing Lemon, Black Pepper, Banana etc. The nursery is only one year old but Md. Topodar planned to supply about 15,000 cuttings of Lemon, Black Pepper and Banana suckers in the next season.

             On our endeavor to generate employment for rural youth, KVK, Karimganj has popularized Mushroom cultivation through training and demonstration at different level. One of the unemployed Rural Youth Mr. Sibashis Sarkar S/O S. L. Sarkar of Banamali Road, Karimganj has successfully established one mushroom production unit with year round technical guidance from KVK, Karimganj. He at present produce on an average 75 bags / day and his  average  production  is  50  kg  / day fresh mushroom.

             He was also guided and helped by KVK, Karimganj to successfully establish marketing channel for his produce to Mizoram. He is earning around Rs. 75,000 /- per month and also generated employment for himself as well as for 3 other rural youth working on regular basis on his unit. He is finding spawn collection somewhat difficult, as he has to procure it from Guwahati. That’s why KVK, Karimganj is planning to establish one spawn production facility and attract more rural youths, SHGs into this activity and generate substantial employment in the rural areas
