Profile of Karimganj District      

             Karimganj district is situated in the southwestern part of Southern Assam lies between 24º. 15´N -25º. 54´N latitude and 92º. 23´E - 92º. 30´ E longitude with an altitude of 16m AMSL. The above geographical area of the District is 1809 Sq. Km. spread along Indo-Bangladesh border touching Tripura and Mizoram State on its south Hailakandi District on the east and Bangladesh on the north and west. The district headquarter, Karimganj itself is situated on the bank of river Kushiara, which is a dividing, line between India and Bangladesh. In summer days, the town bears the characteristic of “PORT-TOWN”.

             The major rivers of Surma Valley that drains Tripura, Mizoram, Monipur, part of Nagaland & Meghalaya flows through the district. As a result Karimganj is the only district constitutes almost 30% area covered by water for more than 6 months every year. Therefore, the district is not merely flood prone but rather “WATER BASE” District.
