Commercial Nursery |

Sri Arun Nath, a practicing farmer of village Bongara, after undergoing
training at KVK, Kamrup started growing economic flowers on commercial
basis. Under the constant guidance of KVK, Kamrup, Sri Nath upgraded
his floral unit to full fledged commercial nursery viz “Sankardev
Nursery”. Sri Nath submitted a project proposal on nursery prepared
by us to Department of Agriculture, Govt of Assam for financial assistance
and subsequently he has been granted Rs. 3,00,000.00 for further development
of his nursery. His present average income is Rs. 15,000/- per month. |

Commercial Nursery |

Sri Hiranya Nath, Village Balipara, Sipajhar, District Darrang was
inspired by KVK, Kamrup and HRS Kahikuchi. He attended a few trainings
on “Nursery Management” and “Horticulture Development”
conducted by KVK, Kamrup during 2002, as a result immense motivation
came on his way. In the beginning he started his nursery in a small
area (0.13 ha) named “Florica” during 2002 under the supervision
of KVK, Kamrup. The technical knowledge gained from the training and
demonstration inspired him to submit a scheme on nursery production
to the department of agriculture, Govt of Assam, for financial assisatance.
Subsequently he was granted (as subsidy) an amount of Rs. 2,00,000/-
under MM-I for improvement and expansion of his nursery. Presently
his small nursery attain the status of a big nursery and monthly average
income is Rs. 20,000/- from an area of 0.67 ha of land. On an average
five daily labourers are being engaged in the nursery throughout the
year.
More than four farmers have been inspired by Sri Nath to adopt the
nursery as a means of livelihood by producing different types of flowers,
foliage, seeds etc. In addition, four SHG are being engaged in the
production of different flowers and foliage under the direct supervision
of Sri Nath. He has been able to organize a one-month (17 Aug to 16
Sept 2006) training programme on “Nursery Establishment and
Management” in association with KVK and HRS, Kahikuchi under
his own banner “FLORICA NURSERY”.

Commercial Nursery |

Sri Sankar Nath, an unemployed educated youth of Borka village started
a small nursery during 2002 after taking training at KVK, Kamrup.
Now he is able to earn his livelihood out of his nursery. Sri Nath
submitted a project proposal on nursery prepared by us to the Department
of Agriculture, Govt. of Assam for financial assistance during March
2003. After proper verification by the officers of the state department
of Agriculture, Govt of Assam, he has already been granted (as subsidy)
Rs. 4, 00,000.00 under Mini Mission - I for further development of
his nursery. His monthly income from the nursery was Rs. 2500.00 during
2003. Presently he is able to increase his income up to Rs. 5,000/-
per month. |

Commercial Nursery |

Sri Dhiraj Kanti Choudhury of Balagaon of Rangia participated in
the training on “Raising and Management of Commercial Nurseries”
organized by KVK, Kamrup. Mr. Choudhury was immensely inspired by
the training and as a result he made up his mind to set up a small
nursery (0.4 ha) in his own land with various ornamental and flower
plants including some seasonal flowers. He is giving expertise service
in grafting and layering to some of the interested farmers of his
locality. Presently his monthly income is about Rs. 3,000/- to 3,500/-. |

Commercial Nursery |

Md. Abul Kashem Azad of Chaygaon, Kamrup district participated in
the training on “Raising and Management of Commercial Nursery”
organized by KVK, Kamrup. After enriching his knowledge on nursery
management, he raised a small nursery in an area of 0.4 ha. Presently
his monthly average income is Rs. 3,000/- and this much of income
is generated mostly by selling different kinds of ornamentals (viz.
Crotons, Bougainvillea, Polialthia, Thuja etc.), fruit crops (Mango,
Olive, Coconut, Arecanut) and forest trees (Teak, Aceassia, Neem etc.).
Md. Kashem has been able to get a grant of Rs. 3,00,000.00 from the
Govt of Assam under Mini Mission II for further development of his
nursery. |

Commercial Floriculture |

Sri Bimal Deka of Rangia started cultivation of Tuberose on commercial
basis in an area of 0.09 ha under the guidance of KVK, Kamrup. Afterwards
Sri Deka undergone training on commercial floriculture organized by
KVK, Kamrup. Now he has expanded his floriculture unit with some new
introduction apart from cultivating tuberose to an area of 0.4 ha.
His present monthly average income is Rs. 15,000/-. |

Commercial Horticulture |

Sri Bhagirath Rabha S/O Sri Puranjaoy Rabha of village Dhangar gaon,
P.O. Dhangar gaon under Rampur block started commercial cultivation
of banana, variety Malbhog, on an area of 1.2 ha under direct supervision
of KVK, Kamrup during April, 2007. Sri Rabha earned an amount of Rs.
1.5 lakh from his banana garden till August, 2008. Being inspired
by the success of Mr. Rabha, 10 youths from different localities had
started planting Malbhog banana on commercial basis. |

Broiler Farming |

Sri Prafulla Talukdar of village Rani, under Rani Block of Kamrup
district has undergone training on “Commercial Rearing of Broiler”
organized at KVK, Kamrup. After taking training on Commercial Broiler
Farming, Sri Talukdar started Broiler farming on commercial basis
with the strength of 3000 Broiler birds during 2006. Presently his
average income is about Rs. 15,000/- per month. |

Integrated Farming System |

Sri Pankaj Kalita S/O Sri Jali Ram Kalita, of Gasbari Village, (Silkijar),
Kamrup attended an off campus training on IFS organized by KVK, Kamrup.
Subsequently, he has raised an IFS model under the guidance of KVK,
Kamrup. Presently his farm strength is Pig 6 nos. (Hampshire), Broiler
birds 500 nos. and a Fishery unit. The piglets of 2 - 4 months age
are sold in market at the rate of Rs 1,200/- in each. At present his
average monthly income is around Rs. 8,000/- generated by selling
piglets, broilers and fishes from the above mentioned three units. |

Vermicompost |

Sri Lankeswar Barman, S/O Sri Amrit Barman of village Karara (Garvitar)
P.O. Tarani of Kamrup district started production of vermicompost
since 1993 with little success. Afterwards, Sri Barman had undergone
training on commercial production of vermicompost organized by KVK,
Kamrup during February, 2006. Now, he is able to produce vermicompost
on commercial basis. During 2006 - 2007, his total income was Rs.
55,000/- . This much of income was generated mostly by selling earthworm
species and vermicompost. Surprisingly, till 2006, his entire 10 bighas
of cultivable land owned by his father was leased to a local landlord
and during early part of 2007, Sri Barman returned the entire money
with interest from his earnings and cultivated himself the entire
land. |

Production Unit of Soft Toys and Designer Clothing Wear |

Ms. Saroj Jaradhara daughter of Shri Dambaru Jaradhara, P.O. –
Zoo Road, Dist.- Kamrup attended various training programmes organized
by KVK, Kamrup. She is very much inspired by the knowledge acquired
during the training programmes and developed interest in activities
like making soft toys, dyeing and designing etc. Presently, she has
started a production unit at her residence. She regularly participates
in various exhibitions organized by Panchayat &.Rural Development,
Assam and NEDFi, Guwahati. Ms. Jaradhara who earns around Rs. 8,000/-
per month is a good example of a successful entrepreneur. |

Tailoring Unit |

Ms Dipika Boro, D/O Late B. Boro, Village Sajanpara, P.O. Rani,
District – Kamrup, participated in the training programmes organized
by KVK, Kamrup. Ms. Boro is very much inspired by the KVK and has
started a tailoring unit in her village, Sajanpara, Rani in the year,
2005 under the guidance of KVK. In her tailoring unit she stitches
garments mostly for infants, children and ladies. In addition, she
has created provisions for dying and printing of cloth, making designs
with fabric colour, tie and dye etc. in her tailoring unit. Recently
she has started to impart training of garment making for interested
local youths.
Ms. Boro is the only lady in the entire block for developing entrepreneurship
and is a good example for new generation. Her average monthly income
from the tailoring unit is Rs. 4,000/- to Rs. 4,500/- (Rupees Four
thousand to Rupees Four thousand five hundred) only.

Weaving Unit |

Ms. Padmawati Baruah, W/o Sri Dwijen Baruah, village Gorol (Baruapara),
P.O. Bhattapara, District Kamrup, participated in the training programmes
organized by KVK, Kamrup. Ms. Baruah is very much inspired by the
KVK and has started a weaving unit specially on Eri silk. The produced
materials are mainly Eri swalls and dress materials. Now she is commercially
producing Mekhla-Sadar, Swalls, dress materials and selling them at
the block level. Her average monthly income from the weaving unit
is Rs 4,000/- |
