- Brief background
Brief background of KVK, JorhatKrishi Vigyan Kendra, Jorhat was established vide sanction order: F.No.9(10)/2005-AE-1 dtd 28/2/2006. The Kendra is about 35 km away from Jorhat town. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jorhat is is 1.0 km south from the National Highway 37 from KaliapaniTinali, Teok. The site is connected to the NH 37 by metal road and the KVK, Jorhat campus is connected by roads from different angles of the villages surrounding the site.
Trainings of KVK, JorhatThe major objectives of on-campus and off-campus trainings were to generate opportunities for income and employment, to provide technical know–how and to update the knowledge of the farming community. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jorhat is conducting OFTs, FLDs and other Training programmes continuesly to provide the latest technologies to the farmers at proper time at their doorsteps.
Highlights of KVK ActivitiesKVK, Jorhat in collaboration with AICRP (WM), AAU, Jorhat and Department of Agriculture, Majuli initiated several demonstration programme of Toria variety TS-38 during 2008 - 09 at several villages in majuli. Visualizing the better yield performance of TS-38 farmers were interested to adopt the variety. During 2009-10 farmers of 8 villages cultuvated TS-38 in 40 ha. of land.

Majuli IslandMajuli or Majoli (Assamese: মাজুলী) is a large river island in the Brahmaputra river, in the Indian state of Assam. Majuli had a total area of 1,250 square kilometres (483 sq mi), but having lost significantly to erosion it has an area of only 421.65 square kilometres (163 sq mi) in 2001. The island is formed by the Brahmaputra river in the south and the Kherkutia Xuti, an anabranch of the Brahmaputra, joined by the Subansiri River in the north.Majuli island is accessible by ferries from the City of Jorhat.

Jorhat District"Jorhat" or "Jorehaut" means two hats or mandis-“Macharhat” and “Chowkihat” which existed on the two different banks of the river Bhogdoi during the 18th century, Jorhat was the last capital of the Ahom Kingdom. In 1794 the Ahom king Gaurinath Singha shifted the capital from Sibsagar (erstwhile ”Rangpur”) to Jorhat.
