Information on occurrence of floods/ draught for last 5 years
Flood is a regular feature that affects crops, livestock and fisheries almost every year. Severity of flood varies from mild to very severe. When affected area and loss from flood has remained less than 25% then its termed as “mild” which is denoted in the table below as “M”; when the loss remained in between 25-50% then its termed as “severe” and is denoted in the table as “S” and when the loss occurred more than 50% then it is termed “very severe” and is denoted below in table as “VS”. Flood generally occurs during May to October and total affected area varies from year to year. Draught normally prevails during winter period, which results in increase of cultivation cost of oilseeds and rabi vegetable crops. However, exceptionally draught occurred during kharif season in 2006, which resulted low coverage of kharif rice.
