1. Success story on Nursery business Horticultural nursery has tremendous potentiality as an enterprise in Cachar district. Few peoples also have established nursery in this zone. But their businesses were not run well. The main reasons were unskilled person and lack of motivation towards nursery as an enterprise. Therefore, the KVK, Cachar, in collaboration with the Deptt. of Agriculture organized a special 6 days training programmes for those private nursery men. The main objectives of the training were to provide skill and knowledge to the participants and to give information regarding source of quality planting materials. Mr. Subrata Chakraborty, a college dropout of village Jhapirbond, Cachar was one of the participants in the training. He also established a nursery in 1988. It was the only source of income for his family. He started the nursery in 5 bighs of land. But his business was also not running well as expected since he was an unskilled person in nursery. Therefore, he also participated in the said training. After taking part in this 6 days training programme on horticultural nursery, Mr. Chakraborty became a skilled and well informed person on nursery. After that he reorganized his nursery scientifically and planted different types of quality mother plants. He started to produce various planting materials of fruits, flowers, medicinal and aromatic plants, saplings of agro-forestry etc. He sells his output to retail sellers at Silchar town. He also supplies the planting materials to the Deptt. of Agriculture. His nursery was registered under Deptt. of Agriculture. For improving his marketing skill, he has undergone another training on marketing for rural entrepreneur at KVK, Cachar. Mr. Chakraborty had also received Rs. 2.00 lac from Deptt. of Agriculture under Technology Mission. In his nursery he presently employed four permanent labours and few casual labours. His monthly turnover is Rs. 18000.00 (approx.) with a net profit of Rs. 10000.00 per month (approx.). Now his nursery is a grand success for him and his family is living peacefully depending on the income of the nursery. 2. Success story on honey bee rearing Mr. Biswajit Roy, a 25 year old school drop out from village Kumarpara, Dist. Cachar, Assam is earning money through rearing honey bee.
