Agriculture or farming is the backbone of India’s economy, as two-thirds of the population live in rural areas and depend (directly or indirectly) on agriculture for a living. In India, revenue from farming is the only source of income for majority of the farming community. Efforts are being made to improve agricultural productivity by facilitating the advances in agricultural technology to reach farmers. In India, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous apex national organization registered as a society, which plans, conducts and promotes research, education, training and transfer of technology for advancement of agriculture and allied sciences. It operates through 46 central research institutes, 4 national bureaus,10 project directorates, 27 national research centres, 90 all-India coordinated research projects, 261 Krishi Vigyan Kendras and 8 trainers training centres. Also, around 31 agricultural universities have been established in different parts of the country to conduct research.
KVK, Cachar was established on 28th January’1995 to cater the needs of the farming community of the district. Within the years of existence, the KVK could establish itself as resource centre in the field of agriculture and allied sciences through various activities. Location of KVK: The KVK is located at Arunachal under Borkhola Development Block. The Centre is 7 KM away from the Silchar town and well connected by roads and train. The airport Kumbhirgram is 35 kms from this KVK. The sate capital Dispur (Guwahati) is away from 328 kms . The KVK is having 50 ha of land. Out of which 12 ha road and building, 2 ha Demonstration unit, 10 ha field crops, 6 ha orchard / Agro- forestry and 20 ha pond and waste land and forest. |
