| Background: |
We have the pleasure to inform you that the National Conference on “FRONTIERS IN PLANT PHYSIOLOGY TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE” is being organized under the aegis of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat and Indian Society for Plant Physiology, (ISPP), New Delhi during 5th-7th Nov. 2009, in Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat campus. The society bears a long history of its existence for academic service to the nation and to the mankind. The society was established in the year 1958. Thanks to the efforts of late Profs. Boshi Sen, J.J. Chinoy, R.D Asana and K.K. Nanda. Since then the society has been continuously engaged in highlighting the advances in the field of Plant Physiology by way of publication of Indian Journal of Plant Physiology and organizing national and international seminars. Through national seminars the society aims to promote the cause of scientific community associated with plant / life sciences .
The conference will address the burning issues of the country in general and Northeastern region in particular including impact of environmental pollution, climate change, post harvest technology, integrative crop management for food security and challenges to augment productivity of various crops.

| Scientific Programme: |
The conference features plenary lectures, followed by oral sessions of invited papers and contributory papers and poster presentations. In addition, working groups will have deliberations on topic of specific importance and policy guidelines/documents. There will be a special session for young scientist for presentation of research papers (Age limit 35 years) |

Plenary lecture will be arranged each day on a specific topic of current interest |

| Symposium: |
Concurrent symposia sessions of invited/contributory papers will be held each day covering following areas |
- Sustainable crop productivity in relation to climate change
- Integrative crop management for food security
- Stress physiology
- Physiological and molecular aspects of stress.
- Post harvest technology
- Crop modeling
- Challenges in improvement of Plantation crop, Forest crop Aromatic & Medicinal Plants.

| Posters: |
There will be structured and organized poster sessions each day to encourage wider participation. Each poster session will conclude with a reporter’s overview and discussion and the best poster in each session will be considered for award. |

| Call for Abstract: |
Abstracts are invited for contributory papers or poster presentation from intending participants. Interested persons are requested to send their abstracts on any subject covered in the areas of conference. The file name should have the name of the author. The abstract should be typed within one page (up to 250 words) in English (MS word). A copy of abstract may be sent through email to conference_plphysiol@aau.ac.in, / rdassam@yahoo.com or may be sent by post along with soft copy to the Dr. Ranjan Das on or before 31st August, 2009. Abstract will be peer reviewed and only those found suitable will be accepted for presentation. Participants of selected abstract will be informed by email, wherever available or by post. Publication of abstract and presentation will be subject to registration. Only one abstract will be accepted from single registered participant. |

| About the City: |
Jorhat was established as the new capital of Axom in the closing years of the 18th century by the decaying and declining Tunkhungia Ahom Dynasty. Jorhat is the second largest city of Assam. The district of Jorhat enjoys the distinction of having the largest number of educated residents in Assam. Jorhat is known as the Cultural Capital of Assam. On the North of the district, the Brahmaputra River forms the largest riverine island of the world, Majuli. Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary is the only wildlife sanctuary in India to be named after a non-human primate. It is easy to reach Jorhat from Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati by train, bus and air. Kaziranga, the National park with its famous one horned rhino is situated along the national highway No. 37 and is about 120 km away from AAU, Jorhat campus. The town of Jorhat is well connected to different tourist places viz. Shillong, Itanagar, Sibsagar, Tezu, Tawang, Dimapur, Agartala, Imphal, Darjeeling, Sikkim, Thimphu ( Bhutan) etc. |

| Weather: |
Weather at Jorhat during November is very pleasant. The temperature during the period ranges between 25 and 27 deg C at day ; 15 and 17 deg C at night. Light warm clothes are advised. |

| Participants are requested to register themselves for participation in the conference on or before 1st Oct, 2009 by paying a registration fee at the following rates, through demand draft in favour of National conference plant physiology 2009 payable at SBI, AAU. | Accomodation: |
Accommodation is being arranged for the delegates in local hotels, guesthouses, hostels etc. In Jorhat, hotels are available with seat rent ranging from Rs. 250 to 1800/day. It will be provided to the delegates on prior request on advanced payment basis.
Post conference tours will be organized for the registered delegates and their spouses/guests in and around Jorhat and to places of intersect nearby such as Kaziranga, Majuli and Sibsagar on payment basis. The registration fee does not include accommodation. |

Exhibitions are planned concurrent to conference for instruments used in Physiological and Molecular research. Firms are welcome to the exhibition. Interested organization may contact organizers. |
